Siemens PLM Analyst Conference 2014—Blending Virtual and Real Worlds—Part One
Siemens’ new “realize innovation” strategy is an evolution of what has been in the works at Siemens PLM Software for some time. The vendor has been working hard

case management conference hearing  to have everything in case a customer wants it from a single vendor, but the aforementioned federated data openness and openness to third-party software is there (as not many companies will single source all of their PLM-MOM solutions). Siemens will gladly sell you only Parasolid, Kineo, JT, LMS, IBS, etc. to embed, and vice versa, as you can add other apps to Teamcenter.   Part Two of this blog series continues my discussion about the Siemens PLM Summit 2014—I take a look at the company’s current

Process Manufacturing (ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today's leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, human resources) and include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, many solutions that were formerly considered peripheral (product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), reporting, etc.). While during the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-Business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The old adage is "Such a beginning, such an end", and, consequently, many ERP systems' failures could be traced back to a bad software selection. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers' IT technology with their business strategy, and subsequent software selection. This is the perfect time to create the business case and energize the entire organization towards the vision sharing and a buy in, both being the Key Success Factors (KSFs). Yet, these steps are very often neglected despite the amount of expert literature and articles that emphasize their importance.

Job Scheduling Maze in Distributed IT Landscapes - Part 1

We certainly learn new things every day, and sometimes out of pure serendipity. Namely, when I was recently asked by one of my industry contacts (working for a PR agency) whether I would like to have a briefing with and about his client, whose name included the word "batch" as a part, I agreed, thinking it was a process enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendor or maybe a manufacturing execution

To that end, ActiveBatch provides a central point of scheduling that allows each of these disparate systems to be automated and integrated into coherent workflows. The essence of ActiveBatch, Intelligent Automation , is to provide the level of integration for applications, platforms, databases, and specific functions without the need for costly and tedious code scripting (and reliance on programmers). Chatting with TradeStone Software @ NRF BIG Retail Shows - Part 1

Some signs of a modest economic recovery and cautious optimism are shyly popping out, although they might be only be crumbs of comfort for many unemployed regular Joes. I also saw improved optimism at the recent National Retail Federation’s (NRF) BIG Retail Show 2010 in New York City in mid January. In contrast, the atmosphere of the same retail show one year ago felt like

Can Enterprises Keep Their Spend on Their Radar (Screen)?

My recent post Why don’t Potential Benefits of Spend Analysis Come by Easily? described typical challenges of comprehensive spend management solutions. On one hand, there are difficulties associated with massive spend data acquisition and subsequent classification and enrichment, and on the other hand, with presentation and analysis when done using rigid business intelligence (BI) tools over

case management conference hearing  into two mobility use cases. On the one hand, there are category managers who use the details of the underlying data to make strategic business decisions. On the other hand, there are management and executive personnel who use the summary information to provide status and reporting against targeted goals. Because of some of the inherent security issues with current mobility applications, we recommend that use of mobility be relegated to the later use case. This ensures that highly sensitive business data Read More

APICS 2009 From the Expo Floor: Is S&OP Coming of Age? - Part 4

Part 1 of this series talked about my attendance of the APICS 2009 international conference in Toronto (Canada) in early October. I attended only a few education sessions, and my conference visit focused more on exploring the expo floor and talking to the exhibitors. My overwhelming impression from the conference's expo floor was that its main value proposition this year revolved around the

As S&OP is “built-in” to Oracle's Value Chain Planning applications, Oracle Consulting and most of its implementation partners have S&OP experience. In addition, Oracle has S&OP implementations going on at both Oliver Wight and Tom Wallace clients.   The strength and flexibility of Oracle Sales and Operations Planning supports either business process methodology. For instance, Inspirage , a successful Oracle Value Chain Planning implementation partner, has Read More

Integrating Customer Relationship Management and Service Resolution Management

The business case for integrating call center service resolution management into customer relationship management is becoming increasingly obvious, as companies need to rely more on inbound (customer-generated) calls than on outbound telemarketing efforts.

The business case for call center applications is becoming increasingly obvious, especially given the recently established National Do Not Call Registry in the US. The revenue driver will thus become inbound customer calls rather than companies trying to generate leads via outbound telemarketing efforts, which have too often proved to be annoying to customers, and ultimately counterproductive. Contact and Call Centers Close the CRM Loop Virtually all firms, therefore, have a Read More
